It’s time to rethink

Boosting sustainability in companies

Sustainable, exportable innovations help to reduce resource consumption worldwide, while also increasing value creation in the canton of Aargau. For this reason, as part of the canton’s development priority ‘Promoting resource-efficient innovation’, the Economic Promotion Agency is working with companies and partners to develop targeted measures to support companies in their transition towards more effective resource conservation.

Industrial symbiosis – Aarau Region

Turning waste into added value – get involved!

The pilot project ‘Industrial Symbiosis – Aarau Region’ was launched in collaboration with the town of Aarau and the Hightech Zentrum Aargau. As part of this project, the Institute for Biomass and Resource Efficiency at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) conducted a material flow analysis for the canton and identified potential areas for closed-loop recycling. In terms of potential reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, the areas that particularly stand out are food waste and plastics.

The aim of the project is to build links between companies in the canton of Aargau so that waste products from one company can be used as valuable resources by others, thus creating closed-loop material cycles.
